Holy Trinity Anglican Church East Melbourne

Holy Trinity Anglican Church is located at 193 Hotham Street East Melbourne in Victoria. It is often used for weddings and Christian meditation.

Our Vision

In this faith community we seek to reflect the all-inclusive hospitality of God and welcome the Spirit of Jesus Christ present in all peoples, experiences and places.

Our Story

Anglican worship started in the Church of England schoolhouse on the corner of Victoria Parade and Hoddle Street in 1857 – serving as a mission church to the working class families on the low-lying Richmond and Collingwood flats.

Church altar

In 1863 a bluestone church was built on the George Street corner of the present site – a place designated as the site for the Cathedral. That church was destroyed by fire in 1905 and the present church was built at the opposite end of the block and consecrated in October 1907.

In 1970 the former Vicarage on Clarendon Street was sold and the present house was purchased. From 2004 the parish hall was the temporary home for the East Melbourne Library whilst its new building was being constructed on George Street. From August 2006 it is the administrative offices for AngliCORD.

Partnerships

We belong to the worldwide fellowship of churches of the Anglican Communion under the leadership of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams; the Anglican Church of Australia whose Primate is Archbishop Philip Aspinall; the Diocese of Melbourne, whose Archbishop is Philip Freier; the Northern Region whose Bishop is Philip Huggins.

We also hold membership of the ecumenical Melbourne City Churches in Action.

In 2007 we entered into a partner parish relationship with the parish of Horsham in the Diocese of Ballarat.  This is a Church response to the rural crisis as a result of the drought.  We are committed to praying for each other, offering practical support and occasional visits.  We plan to visit Horsham over the weekend 7 to 10 March.

Worship Times

Our Worship times are:

Sundays 8am Eucharist and 10am Sung Eucharist

Tuesdays 5.30pm Meditation Group

Wednesdays 10am Eucharist

On the second Wednesday of the month this 10am Eucharist is held at Mercy Place 22 Verona Lane (off Gipps Street) East Melbourne.
