Worship

The church is open every day of the year for quiet, prayer and rest. Opening hours are usually 9am to 5pm.

Every Sunday 8am Eucharist (Quiet, reflective in Chapel)

10am Sung Eucharist and morning tea

Tuesdays 5.30pm Christian Meditation group

Wednesdays 10am Eucharist and morning tea.  On the second Wednesday of the month this 10am Eucharist will be held at Mercy Place, 22 Verona Lane (off Gipps Street) East Melbourne.

During Lent we encourage you to use the prayer resource provided by the Diocese. It focuses on the Gospel reading for each Sunday and offers suggestions for personal reflection and prayer. Copies of the booklet are available before Lent begins.

17 February Ash Wednesday

10am and 7.30pm Liturgy including the Imposition of Ashes

28 March Palm Sunday

10am Gather in the Fitzroy Gardens for Palm Procession to Church.

1 April Maundy Thursday

8pm Liturgy, includes the Washing of Feet, the Institution of the Lord’s Supper, and Stripping of the Altar.

2 April Good Friday

10am Way of the Cross Procession with other Melbourne City Churches. Commences at St Francis’ Lonsdale Street.

2pm Liturgy, includes dramatic reading of the Passion of Christ, Prayer for the world with Christ on the Cross, Devotions at the foot of the cross, Holy Communion.

4 April Easter Day

6am Liturgy, including Vigil Readings, Lighting of the New Fire and Festal Eucharist of the Resurrection. Followed by breakfast together.

10am Sung Eucharist for the Resurrection of Christ.

23 May Pentecost Sunday

10am Festival Eucharist for the Holy Spirit

30 May Trinity Sunday – The Festival of our Title.

10am Festival Eucharist. Guest Preacher.

Followed by lunch together.

8 August Our Regional Bishop, Philip Huggins, will Preside and Preach at the 10am Eucharist.

3 October Eve of St Francis’ Day.

10am We will have our morning service in the Fitzroy Gardens to celebrate this popular saint, followed by a shared picnic lunch.

20 December

6pm Service of Carols and Readings to prepare for Christmas.

24 December

9.30pm Mass for Christmas Eve (CHANGED TIME)

25 December 10am Festival Eucharist for Christmas Day

Spirituality Programs

Once a month there is a seminar or workshop on some aspect of spirituality. The gathering is usually on the third Thursday of each month from 10.30am to 3pm. Full details are on a separate flyer.

We also offer spiritual direction and counselling, as well as training and supervision for spiritual directors.

A guide is available if you would like to have a “Prayerful Walk in the Fitzroy Gardens’.

Naidoc Week

Every year we do something to keep us focussed on issues of our indigenous brothers and sisters. We will have a dinner on Friday 9 July and on Sunday 4 July our worship will have some indigenous content. For further details contact Peter Arnott on 9417 5048.

Music Recitals

The parish has a long tradition of music in many forms. We hold regular Sunday afternoon concerts and details are advertised as planning is completed. So far these are planned:

28 February at 2pm. Moments Musical.

23 May at 2pm. A piano recital at 2pm. Philip Gelbach will play music by Chopin, Schubert and Rachmaninov.

Tuesday 16 February Come and celebrate pancake day commencing at 6.30pm

Sunday 30 May Trinity Sunday lunch.

Sunday 3 October  Eve of St Francis Day. Worship and a picnic lunch in the Fitzroy Gardens..

Sunday 21 November lunch together after the parish AGM.

Vestry Meetings

Vestry meets at 7.30pm on Tuesdays

Sausage Sizzles

The parish has a long tradition of providing a sausage sizzle on Clarendon Street on the Fridays and Saturdays when there is AFL football at the MCG. This is the 15^th year of this project. Money raised is used for specific outreach and mission projects as well as parish needs. In the first ten years $125,000.00 was raised and distributed. This year the season commences on 10th April and Grand Final Day is 25^th September.
