WELCOME TO LENT
As we begin another Lent and as some of us gather to have ashes placed on our heads I think its worth a moment or two to pause and think about life, the world and God. Much of our behaviour and reactions and governed by things outside ourselves – peoples opinions of us, the economy and increasingly social media. The ashes are an outer sign of something important and lead us to look inside ourselves rather than concentrate on the forces outside. We are urged so often to try and control everything that happens to us when in fact there is little influence we can have except on ourselves and how we react to the forces from outside. This Lent may be an opportunity to look within ourselves to identify the enormous strengths we have in dealing with the various things life hands to us. Maybe this Lent this might become our mantra, “we cannot control the waves, but we can learn to surf.”
